The answer might surprise you.
Get honest advice when it comes to logos; your logo is supposed to help your brand shine and help people remember you and understand what you do.
A good logo can make a real difference for your business, but it doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated. Try typing your business name in a bold, clear font and see how it feels. This quick step helps you get started right away and keeps your branding simple and easy to recognise.
If you’re building a one-page website, clear and simple is the way to go. Using your business name in a straightforward font often works better than a fancy graphic. It loads faster, looks great on mobile devices, and is easy to read. For local businesses, it’s often more useful to be remembered as ‘the plumber in St Peter Port with the blue wordmark’ than to use a logo people might forget.
That’s not to say you should never use images. Simple symbols can work well once people know your brand, or if you’re in a busy market where visuals help you stand out. But for most small businesses, especially if you have a single-page site, it’s best to focus on clear text, good colour contrast, and consistent use of your business name. Start by being easy to read and trustworthy. You can always refresh your logo with more detail as your business grows.
